COLLECTION, TRANSPORTATION, AND DISPOSAL OF MEDICAL WASTE SERVICES FOR PetroSA

Procurement of collection, transportation, and disposal of medical waste for PetroSA. Requirements

• Accredited medical waste service provider
• Compliance with National Environmental Management: Waste Act (Act 59 of 2008), SANS 10248-1, Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993)
• Licensed by DEAT to collect and transport medical waste
• Compliant transport vehicles with SANS hazard decals, internal spill kits, and decontamination tracking
• Universal biohazard symbol displayed on medical waste transport vehicles
• Provide or establish temporary legally compliant storage at PetroSA GTL Refinery
• Provide Waste Manifest/consignment notes signed by clinic and transporter for every collection
• Certificates of destruction issued within 7 days per facility; registration with PetroSA using Western Cape Government details
• Contingency plan for collection vehicles; operator knowledgeable about contingency plans
• Availability for audit to ensure compliance
• Containers for proper segregation of medical waste (e.g., green for expired meds, red bags/boxes for body fluids, sharps containers)
• Ability to assist with collection at other PetroSA units (Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Tzaneen)
