Overview

The appointment of a service provider to supply helicopter services to conduct an annual aerial census in Mokala National Park for SANParks’ Arid Research Unit – Scientific Services. This is a re-advertised RFQ seeking a 4-seat helicopter (R44 or equivalent) for a one-off period in Oct/Nov 2026, with 32 flight hours (excluding ferry).

Requirements

• Valid SACAA credentials: AOC in bidder’s name, OPSPEC (General Air Service Class III, Aircraft Category H2), and Air Services License Class III (G10/G15 in ASL, H2).
• Dedicated pilots: valid commercial helicopter license with Cull rating, pilot logbook proof (≥500 aerial census hours; ≥1000 total helicopter hours), plus proficiency test (≤6 months), medical, CRM, DG certificate, and employment contracts.
• Insurance: combined 3rd party and passenger liability ≥ R50,000,000 per incident; insurance reference and an undertaking letter.
• Compliance documents: SBD1, SBD4, SBD6.1, SBD7.2; Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration or Tax Compliance Status (PIN); POPIA compliance.
• Experience/specs: 32 flight hours for Mokala census; capability to operate a 4-seater helicopter with required safety, comms, and survey plotting equipment.
• Evaluation requires both mandatory criteria and a technical/functional score (see RFQ).

• On award, sign the Contract Form (SBD7.2).
